The Michigan Nanny Authority: Grand Rapids is now interviewing for the following position:
An active family in Ada is seeking a part-time Household Manager for 25 hours per week!
Parents are looking to hire a friendly, flexible, and motivated Household Manager to join their parenting team and help them care for their children and their home. Hours are roughly 2p-7p Monday through Friday, though start and end times will ideally be flexible depending on the day’s schedule. The family will guarantee a minimum of 25 hours per week and more hours are often available.
The Household Manager’s primary job role is to be a “professional stay-at-home mom” and help the family with tasks related to the care of the family’s middle-school-aged children and maintenance of the home. This includes meal-planning, weekly/bi-weekly grocery shopping, errand running as needed/requested, preparing a healthy dairy-and-gluten-free dinner each night, doing the family’s laundry, very light housekeeping to keep common areas tidy between visits from the family’s cleaning person, and any other activity/job that the Household Manager and/or family deems necessary for the maintenance of the home. The first two hours of each work day will be dedicated to tackling these tasks, so the Household Manager should be a motivated self-starter and be able to create a daily and weekly schedule for herself that allows her to get everything done in the time allotted and on days that make the most sense for the household, such as making sure laundry is clean and fridge is stocked before each weekend. The family provides a weekly “tried and true” grocery list and the Household Manager will have access to multiple cookbooks that cater to dairy and gluten intolerances to make meal-planning and preparation easier on her!
The family has two children, a 13-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy. When they arrive home from school at 3:30pm and 4pm, the Household Manager will provide transportation to and from sports practices and games and any other extracurricular activities, of which the children are involved throughout the school year. She will also be available for homework help and making sure they get a substantial afternoon snack. The children are very independent and self-sufficient, and can be tasked to help the Household Manager do some of the household tasks, like taking care of their clean laundry, walking the dogs after school, and helping get dinner on the table.
The mother works full-time outside of the home and the father has a disability that makes it very difficult for him to help with any tasks related to the home. He will be at home most of the time the Household Manager is on duty, so she should feel comfortable working along-side a friendly stay-at-home-parent who has no desire to micromanage her role in the family. The father may occasionally request additional help such as pharmacy runs, but does not need daily care from the Household Manager. The family also has two friendly dogs, who are hypoallergenic, well-behaved, and valued members of the family. The Household Manager will help with them by taking them for a walk each afternoon, and she should enjoy having furry friends underfoot!
The ideal Household Manager will have experience as a Nanny/Household Manager or as a mother who has balanced care of her children with care of her home. The family is willing to consider someone without specific Household Manager/mom experience if they have a personal or work history of being motivated, accomplishing tasks quickly and efficiently, and needing very little day-to-day input to get work done. Because this position also involves providing care for a teen and pre-teen, the Household Manager should have a heart for this age group and genuinely enjoy spending time with them, earning their respect and friendship, and investing in their lives as a caregiver and as a mentor/role model. The family’s ideal candidate will be friendly and out-going and have a positive attitude and a “What else can I do to make your lives easier?” outlook on providing care for the entire family. She should be reliable, flexible, responsible, and trustworthy. Most importantly, she will quickly feel like a member of the family!
This position requires a long-term commitment to the family, and preference will be given to the candidate who is willing to stay for more than two years. A minimum of 1 year commitment is required. Pay will start at $12 per hour. Other industry-standard benefits will be discussed at an in-person interview for those qualified for the position
The right candidate:
- Will have AT LEAST two years of part- or full-time nanny and/or household manager experience. Experience raising children of one’s own is considered appropriate experience. Sorry, your own children are not able to come with you for this position!
- Will have her own reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
- Must be legal to work in the USA
- Must pass a thorough background check and drug test before starting the position.
- Must have current CPR/First aid certification or agree to complete a class within 90 days of start-date.
